Celeb Eco-Beauty Favourites

We've just learnt that Gwyneth Paltrow is almost as big a fan of Pangea Organics skin care range as we are at How on Earth. The innovative company have funky packaging and a great ethos but the best bit is that the products don't disapoint. And, as one customer said this week, they've done a great job selecting and mixing a range of essential oils to give fantastic all-natural aromas. See the full range: Pangea Organics.

Apparently, Uma Thurman is another eco-beauty enthusiast - she uses Origins Smileage Plus liptint which is 95% organic. If you haven't seen it before, check out their new organic USDA certified range at Origins Organics.

Pai Organic Skincare

We're over the moon to have found this fantastic range. Voted Number 1 organic beauty product in Grazia magazine, this is what luxury skin care should be about.

Meaning 'goodness' in Maori, Pai products are all freshly prepared with the purest plant-based ingredients. Free from parabens, phthalates, sls and other nasties, the products are all Soil Association certified so you know they're as pure as they come.

Plus they're all handmade in the UK and beautifully packaged - what more could you want?!

Earth Day

Today, the 22nd April, is otherwise known as "Earth Day". Set up to create awareness of environmental issues and campaign for a healthy, sustainable planet, the annual event which started in 1970 is more relevant now than ever before.

Events are taking place across the world - from New York to Los Angeles, Caracas to Tokyo. If you can't join in with one today, the organisers are calling on you to call your government representative (or local councillor if you're in the UK!) and ask them to take action on climate change. For more details, have a look at the official website: Earth Day.

Failing that, we can all do our bit every day, and hopefully already are... changing those light bulbs to low energy, saying no to plastic bags, turning down the heating, using the car less... We know the drill and it does all count, so don't despair!

Spring sale and new natural make up range

There are a few exciting things going on at How on Earth at the moment. We’ve got absolutely loads of new ranges coming over the next couple of months, so we’re having a spring clean to make some space for the new stock which means some great special offers! For more details, follow the link: How on Earth Sale.

The first of our new ranges is the ultimate in mineral cosmetics - the Suki Color range. 100% natural and certified cruelty-free, Suki skin care products are some of the cleanest available on the market - no SLS, parabens, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, just full of gentle, natural and active ingredients for healthy skin. Whilst the prices are higher than your Boots No7 range, we believe they're worth every penny. Like the skin care, once you’ve tried the range, we're pretty sure you'll become addicted!

Plus, most of the cosmetics products have multiple uses – the eye cream definers can be used as eye shadow or liner, and the concealer can also be blended with a moisturiser to make a great foundation - if you're like me and always fill your handbag to bursting, one less thing to carry is a definite plus! You can find the full range at Suki Color.

There's also a great YouTube review (independent I might add!) if you'd like to see how well they work.

Eco-Beauty

It's a relatively unused term but we think it describes us perfectly. We aren't a standard 'organic beauty' site - we are all about encouraging a greener cosmetics industry. It's been slow to catch up with other sectors, but we're pleased to be able to say it's finally getting there. In fact, there's suddenly so much going on, we can barely keep up!

Needless to say, you've still got your greenwash companies and your multinationals who are trying to claim their 'green values' but generally, there's amazing development going on which we're ecstatic about.

As a business we sell the products that we really believe in but we're also just really keen to shout about all the people and companies that are doing great things. It's hard for consumers to wade through the mass of information out there to know whether or not their choices are the right ones, or even if they're based on accurate information, so we try and help out by sharing what we know.

So welcome to our blog! We hope it's of interest and maybe even helps you make a decision or two...
